Polygon's #BUIDLIT Hackathon Extends dApp Submission Deadline

You asked, we answered!

Polygon is bumping the deadline for entries to our BUIDL IT 2022 virtual hackathon. You have until Aug. 22 to get your projects in tiptop shape before sending them to the judges. Winning projects will take home $500,000 in prizes!

We’ve been blown away by the caliber of developers participating in this hackathon. The majority of BUIDL IT hackers are fearless Web2 travelers venturing into Web3 for the first time, and we’re beyond excited that they’ve chosen Polygon to get started on that journey.

Drop by our Discord, where people are busy forming teams and innovating along our hackathon tracks, if you’re a new hacker looking to learn the ropes and get it on the action

To make Web3 more accessible to everyone, Polygon has just launched the Designathon, with $50,000 in prizes for the best prototypes designers can implement.

Our Designathon places a premium on making UX seamless and appealing to all users. Some of the world’s most talented designers are incentivized to create superior user interfaces. They’ll talk about how they’re tackling some of the most difficult design problems while innovating in unexpected ways.

In addition to winning grants and making connections with other designers, the top Designathon participants will be considered for a design job at Polygon!

A friendly reminder about the hackathon prizes: the top three projects will receive $50,000, $30,000, and $15,000, respectively. Our bounties are spread across the following seven tracks, with a winner pool for the top fifty projects, and bounties made available by our partners:

  • DeFi: Build the next generation of finance from DEXs and lending platforms to personal finance and payments solutions.
  • NFTs: Combine creativity with engineering to explore numerous new opportunities in NFT-based applications.
  • Gaming: Create blockchain based incentivized gaming dApps to take the gaming experience on a whole new level.
  • Tooling/Infrastructure: Build the next generation of decentralized tooling and infrastructure to help Web3 developer audience build dApps in a smoother experience.
  • Social Impact/Public Goods: Build a dApp that addresses a social good topic.
  • Web3 Integration with a Web2 Product - Make an existing Web2 application into a Web3 dApp.
  • Everything ZK: Build the next generation of Web3 dApps using Zero-Knowledge tools and infrastructure.

Missed Any Live Workshops This Summer?

Don’t worry, you can easily navigate the hackathon’s content at your own pace. Learn how to deploy your dApp, integrate our ecosystem partner technologies, and start building on Polygon.

Also, check out the BUIDL IT 2022 Summit, where Polygon Co-Founder Sandeep Nailwal and Head of Developer Relations Dalip Tyagi discuss how to find a squad and build for a hackathon.

“Our mission is to bring one billion people into Web3,” Nailwal said during the Summit. “The key to the success of our vision happens only through developers.”

Polygon’s future relies on a robust ecosystem of collaborative developers, pushing the boundaries of our technology while grouping it with accessible, appealing dApps. We know that building doesn’t happen in a vacuum or overnight, which is why Polygon has teamed up with some of the brightest stars in Web3 to make BUIDL IT 2022 a reality.

Our partners include 0vix, Alchemy, AWS, Chainlink, Filecoin, Quickswap, Sequence, and Sphero. Don’t forget to drop into workshops to learn the best practices for integrating their technology!

Many thanks to everyone who has recently joined and to the legion of hackers who’ve already committed to submitting projects. We are excited to see what you create!

Data Availability is Not Data Storage

Recall this grade school experience: you raise your hand and ask, “Can I go to the bathroom?” To which your teacher responds with “I don’t know. Can you?” Might seem far fetched, but this is a perfect entry point to understanding the difference between data availability and data storage. Let's bring this analogy close to […]

The Future is Now for Ethereum Scaling: Introducing Polygon zkEVM

We all know that Ethereum needs to scale, and we at Polygon believe that zero-knowledge (ZK) tech is the most promising pathway to get there. But that path has often seemed as if it would be long and winding. The conventional wisdom has been that the crypto space would need many years to develop Layer […]

Polygon Reaches First Sustainability Milestone by Achieving Network Carbon Neutrality

Polygon has made a major first step toward becoming carbon negative with the retirement of $400,000 in carbon credits representing 104,794 tonnes of greenhouse gasses, or the entirety of the network’s CO2 debt since inception.  The milestone comes after Polygon in mid-April released its Green Manifesto, part of its broader vision for sustainable development. The […]

Polygon Avail Launches on Testnet to Turn Monolithic Chains Modular

If we want the entire world to join Web3, blockchains will need to handle more transactions. Monolithic blockchains can’t scale because they’re asked to perform too many tasks (execution, settlement, and data availability) at once. But if chains were able to focus on just one part of the stack at a time, the entire ecosystem […]

Plonky2 is Now Open-Source

Earlier this year, Polygon announced Plonky2, a zero-knowledge proving system that represents a major breakthrough for ZK tech. Plonky2 offers two main benefits: incredibly fast proofs and extremely efficient recursive proofs. It’s a huge leap forward for the ZK space, and we’ve been blown away by the response from the developer community: people want to […]

Polygon is Now Home to Over 37,000 DApps

More than 37,000 decentralized apps (dApps) have been built on Polygon, according to latest data from Alchemy, the world's leading Web3 development platform. That’s almost double the number in March and a fourfold increase since the start of the year. The number of monthly active teams, the most direct measure of developer activity on the […]
