Ethermon!- Polygon August Adrenaline Series

Polygon has been one of the fastest-growing Dapp platforms for Ethereum scaling, rapidly becoming the de-facto standard for DeFi, NFTs, and Blockchain Gaming with 500+ Dapps, ~7M daily txns, and 1.8M+ unique wallets.

The rise of gaming on Polygon has been especially noticeable, with more than 100,000 blockchain gamers on Polygon and top Web 3 games, and Aavegotchi is one of them, building high-quality gaming experiences thanks to Polygon’s high speed and fast confirmation times.

This tight-knit and exponentially growing gamer community is what led to the creation of Polygon Studios: a brand new arm at Polygon that is focused on growing the global Blockchain Gaming and NFT Industry, and bridging the gap between Web 2 and Web 3 gaming.

Introducing Polygon August Adrenaline: an initiative to highlight and get to know the Gaming & NFT projects on Polygon a little better!

The next project in this series is Ethermon!

Please tell us more about your project and your team.

Ethermon is a free-to-play, play-to-earn NFT game where you collect Ethermons to level up, battle, and earn. The project has been around since 2017 and was one of the earliest NFT projects in the space. Ethermon is pioneering franchising game content so that the community can own a piece of the game and earn revenue through revenue-generating NFTs called METAs. These METAs are deployable in Decentraland and they allow the community to participate in the game at a deeper level.

We have a deep team. Our team has roots in the gaming industry that include core people from the early days of XBOX! Many of the developers in Ethermon have years of experience in the traditional game space and are now in the blockchain space. The team also includes a Ph.D. in Game Design and is the winner of many competitions within Decentraland as well.

“I have a background in Chemical Engineering turned serial entrepreneur. I’ve been awarded a patent for payment security. I’ve also been on Forbes as well as a national interview with Fox Business. I’ve been working with the Ethermon team for well over a year.” — William Gomez (Head of Strategy)

Where are we in the hype cycle for gaming and NFT’s?

Ethermon is relatively early in the gaming hype cycle. Axie is dominating right now because people are waking up to the opportunity or play-to-earn. We have a long way to go before play to earn is common.

Who are some thought leaders you follow in the space?

Matty from DCLBlogger.com. Mike Novagratz is starting to talk about the metaverse as the next big sector.

What are some best ways for newbies to get up to speed in space?

Some of the best ways for newbies to get up to speed in space is by jumping into whatever catches your eye and start doing research. If the metaverse peaks your interest, jump into Decentraland and explore the world and understand the economics that makes it work. If play-to-earn is your thing, Axie is the model for the industry.

What is one thing that most people don’t know about your project?

Ethermon is pioneering franchising NFTs. We figured that play-to-earn will be the big pillar of any blockchain space but how to play-to-earn is executed will be how Ethermon differentiates itself. Franchising NFTs means that we’re able to take important functions in our game economy and sell that function as its own NFT. For example, when you battle your Ethermon in Decentraland the energy depletes. To replenish your energy, you need to find fruit to feed your ethermon that can only be purchased from a player-owned store called a Garden Bed. The revenue is split between the garden bed owner and Ethermon company. Apply this concept throughout the game and you’ll have players who own the fundamental game mechanics and will be lifelong contributors.

Why did you choose to build on Polygon?

Polygon has enabled us to stay blockchain native while maintaining a level of fluidity that players expect from their games. The ability to offer NFTs without the burden of high gas fees has allowed us to continue to develop NFT gameplay and the ability to experiment with new business models.
