Filecoin is coming to Polygon to provide Free Storage for Developers!

We are excited to announce that Web3 interoperability is accelerating between the Polygon and Filecoin ecosystems with the kicks off of the recently-created Filecoin-Polygon Bridge by the Textile team.

To further encourage the developers to try out and build on the bridge, Filecoin and Polygon are also offering free storage costs for any projects using the Textile bridge.

Filecoin-Polygon Storage Bridge and the Vision of Web3 Interoperability

Textile’s release offers a fully functional storage bridge that can store data from any Polygon address owner without any conversions, signups, or secrets exchanged. It can be considered a decentralized storage network. Currently, it is operational on the Polygon

mainnet. In addition, Textile has a roadmap to gradually increase the usability of the bridge, and eventually, to decentralize governance of the bridge.

This is just the beginning..!

Interoperability will enable a whole host of new Web3 applications, by allowing developers to combine capabilities from different blockchain platforms to meet their particular needs. Filecoin will bring greater functionality to Polygon applications that require decentralized and verifiable data storage.

This may be especially relevant to the projects building on Polygon as it is one of the most adopted blockchain platforms for Web3 gaming in terms of the number of Web3 users and the number of games deployed. Eventually, we believe that new applications will emerge from our collective communities, driving towards new kinds of product-market fit in the decentralized world.

Both Polygon and Filecoin have different advantages and are only just beginning to explore the possibilities of their respective protocols. Filecoin is more than just storage and Polygon is rapidly developing new functionalities.

All storage costs on Filecoin using the bridge are free. Stay tuned for more details about the Filecoin-Polygon Bridge!

About Filecoin

Filecoin, the world’s largest decentralized network, allows users to store, request, and transfer data via a verifiable marketplace. Filecoin is completely open-source, enabling people from all over the world to participate. The Filecoin protocol runs on an advanced and novel proof system — a combination of Proof of Spacetime (PoSt) and Proof of Replication (PoRep), to provide unmatched efficiency and reliability.

Filecoin’s advanced technology provides a robust foundation to store the world’s most valuable data sets. An alternative to costly cloud storage, the Filecoin network offers efficiently priced and geographically decentralized storage, minimizing financial barriers and allowing users to take advantage of its unmatched network capabilities.

About Polygon

Polygon is the first well-structured, easy-to-use platform for Ethereum scaling and infrastructure development. Its core component is Polygon SDK, a modular, flexible framework that supports building and connecting Secured Chains like Plasma, Optimistic Rollups, zkRollups, Validium, etc, and Standalone Chains like Polygon POS, designed for flexibility and independence. Polygon’s scaling solutions have seen widespread adoption with 500+ Dapps, ~567M+ txns, and ~6M+ daily txns.

If you’re an Ethereum Developer, you’re already a Polygon developer! Leverage Polygon’s fast and secure txns for your Dapp, get started here.
